"Henna, this form of natural and temporary body art, has been a passion for me since I was very young. My first designs were simple lines and happy faces, drawn with a $2 plastic henna cone I bought from the local Indian store. I was intensely frustrated with these lines but, for whatever reason, found it satisfying to sit hours on end, scribbling away. Several years later, some kind friends asked me to do their bridal henna, giving me the confidence to try this 'henna thing' professionally... the rest, as they say, is history!"

About the Art: Natural Henna
Natural henna is a painless, temporary body art with rich traditions in cultures across Africa, the Middle East and South Asia. Made from the dried leaves of the henna plant (Lawsonia Intermis), it contains a red dye called Lawsone that stains the skin. The leaves are crushed, sifted, and mixed with ingredients including essential oils, lemon juice and sugar to create a smooth paste. Artists apply this paste using a cone to create precise beautiful designs. The paste dries in 20 to 30 minutes and is then kept on the skin for 6-8 hours, leaving behind a beautiful stain that fades slowly over 2 weeks. Check out our 'Stains' gallery for photos of the henna stains at various stages from out clients.
